From Theology to Ecological Culture: A Model for Integrating Environmental Fiqh into the Islamic Religious Education Curriculum.

This study aims to analyze the theological and normative foundations of environmental fiqh and to formulate a model for integrating environmental fiqh into the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum, with a focus on fostering an ecological culture. The study employed a qualitative approach with a multiple-case study design at Muhammadiyah 3 Junior High School in Yogyakarta and the Muhammadiyah Special Program Junior High School in Kottabarat, with the unit of analysis being the implementation of environmental education within the curriculum and Islamic education practices. The results indicate that the integration of environmental fiqh occurs through the interconnection of religious values, school policies, the PAI/ISMUBA curriculum, instruction, the Adiwiyata Program, habit formation, and school culture, although it is not yet fully systematic in terms of objectives, content, and assessment. A cross-case analysis yielded a model of integration comprising Theology–Environmental Fiqh–Policy and Curriculum–Ecological Pedagogy–Habituation–Internalization–Ecological Culture. Environmental fiqh functions as a normative bridge that translates the values of tawhid, khalifah, amanah, and mīzān into educational actions and ecological behavior. Thus, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has the potential to shape students’ ecological-religious character through the integration of values, practices, and a sustainable school culture.
